So I am really excited to announce that I am a new contributor to the Charlotte Mom’s Blog. Charlotte Moms Blog is a collaborative blog that focuses on my lovely city, Charlotte, and the awesome Mama’s who reside here.
About Motherhood & Feeling Connected
For me, when I became pregnant with my first son I felt a big social shock wave roll over my life. I was an active runner and built a lot of friendships around running. I also attended wine tastings and “girls nights”. I was the first person in my group of friends to have a baby and the first part of the pregnancy was really lonely. Don’t get me wrong, I have a great husband, but I felt isolated from my group of friends. My feelings would get hurt when I wasn’t invited somewhere because someone “assumed” I would be too tired to attend. My friends didn’t ditch me, they just couldn’t relate…yet. In my 2nd trimester I quit feeling sorry for myself and actively looked for pregnant friends. My husband called me “the pregnant pickup artist”. I went prenatal yoga , maternity shops and even in my OB’s office to meet pregnant ladies. It sounds crazy, but I believe in social support is a key to well-being and I needed some support. I lucked out met some really awesome ladies.
One of these ladies delivered her son two days before my son, Knox, was born. Well really relied on each during “the baby is here, now what?” stage. Another amazing outcome was that her son and Knox are best fiends.
So, I believe that Moms, non-moms, kids, Dads, Dudes and whoever need to connect with other individuals.
