DIY Rope Necklace

DIY Rope Necklace…

I love the unexpected, especially when it comes to pairing two unlikely materials together. I like fabric in places there should not be fabric, and hard materials where they are supposed to be soft.

A while back, I came across  a really expensive costume jewelry pendant.  It was on clearance, so I purchased it, brought it home and quickly forgot about it.  This weekend I was cleaning out my fabric boxes and found a small piece of drapery cord. Oh, I had an idea… necklace… So, I hunted down the pendant and got to work.

With the pendant, cord, embroidery thread and simple jump clasp I could make myself a really cute necklace.

I attached jump rings to the sides of the pendant and slid the cord through each jump ring.DIY rope necklace.DIY rope necklace

With the embroidery thread, I tightly wrapped the thread around the end of the cord.  This secured the pendant to the cord.

I cut the backside of the cord  and repeated the same process with the embroidery thread and jump rings.  Then, I attached jewelry clasps to both ends of the jump rings.  This was a really simple necklace to create. I will absolutely try this again with other ropes, cords and pendants.

So, I might love this necklace and I might be wearing this necklace right now. I might also wear it tomorrow.

As a lover of all things nautical, this necklace is SUPER inspiring to me! In fact, it gives me an idea of a collaborative project I can do with my hubby (he is the knot expert in the family). Pinning this! (And thanks for your sweet comment on my blog.)
