Hey Ya’ll It’s April

Rain Rain Go Away…What am I thinking, it’s April

Hi Friends,

It is pouring rain in Charlotte today.  Really… it is  raining hard.  It is days like this I try to rack my brain to keep everybody entertained without turning on the T.V.  Art projects usually are a hit. My kid’s seem to like it when we decorate their rooms.  So, with that in mind, today is a good day to make a little April Inspired Instillation for my toddler’s room. I am keeping it simple.

April

Materials

  • Black chalkboard vinyl
  • Foam-board for the cloud
  • Gesso
  • Chalk
  • Fishing line
  • white felt cut into raindrops
  • hot-glue gun
  • Hammer and Nail
  • Staple gun

We have a few random pieces of black chalkboard vinyl that we sometimes use as place-mats.  I stapled a piece of the vinyl to my toddler’s wall.

To make the cloud -Cut the foam-board into the shape of a cloud.  Apply gesso to the cloud shaped foam-board with a spatula. This will provide texture to the appearance of cloud.  Set aside and allow to dry.  It is a subtle texture that you can observe in the image below.

Processed with VSCOcam with b5 preset

To create raindrops I used the hot-glue gun to attach the felt raindrops to the fishing line. Then I attached the fishing line to the cloud.   I used a tiny  nail to attach the cloud to the wall.

With some chalk, I printed “April is Here”.  Super Simple and  “Rain, Cloud, and Chalk” are all words and things my 19 month old loves.

Honestly, he really enjoys eating chalk and playing in the rain.

So, what to do you think about my April Inspired Installation? I can think of a ton of ways to incorporate the foam-board clouds in home decor, especially for kids.

I hope you enjoyed my project,
